CAPRI: Calcolo ad Alte Prestazioni per la Ricerca e l’Innovazione” is a project funded by the University of Padua with reference to the “BANDO INFRASTRUTTURE STRATEGICHE DI RICERCA (ISR)” of 2017.

CAPRI involves 16 Departments of the University of Padua (Biology; Comparative Biomedicine and Food Science; Physics and Astronomy; Geosciences; Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering; Information Engineering; Industrial Engineering; Mathematics; Molecular Medicine; Developmental Psychology and Socialization; Biomedical Sciences; Cardiac, Thoracic, Vascular Sciences and Public Health; Chemical Sciences; Department of Surgery, Oncology and Gastroenterology; Pharmaceutical and Pharmacological Sciences; Statistical Sciences) and the INFN Section of Padua (herein referred to as INFN-PD).

The CAPRI user:

[PART RELATING TO THE LAW]

  • declares that it accepts and undertakes to comply with all the rules set out in these regulations and the Internet Netiquette and that it has read Law no. 547 of 23/12/1993 concerning the rules of the Code of Criminal Procedure on computer crime
  • undertakes not to engage in activities contrary to national, Community and international law
  • undertakes not to engage in any activity that is otherwise liable to damage, destroy, compromise the security of the infrastructure or to violate confidentiality and/or cause damage to third parties, including the creation, transmission and storage of images, data or other material that is offensive, defamatory, obscene, indecent or which is detrimental to human dignity, especially if it relates to sex, race, religion, political opinions or personal or social condition

[PRIVACY AND CONFIDENTIALITY OF DATA]

  • undertakes to comply with European legislation (EU General Data Protection Regulation, GDPR) in force since 25 May 2018, which requires the adoption of relevant technical and organisational requirements in order to be able to process personal data securely and to guarantee the privacy of users and/or third parties to whom such data refers and the relative provisions of the University of Padua
  • undertakes to process the data and use them on CAPRI in an appropriately anonymised form and in compliance with the regulations in force
  • undertakes to contact, when necessary, the competent University offices and declare in advance the type of data processed and the protection technologies adopted to ensure their protection

[PROPER USE OF COMPUTING INFRASTRUCTURE]

  • undertakes to use the resources made available to it exclusively for research activities, or for activities on behalf of third parties previously authorised by the relevant Department or INFN-PD, or, in the case of users belonging to companies or bodies outside the University of Padua or INFN-PD, for activities agreed and regulated in advance
  • undertakes not to transmit unsolicited commercial and/or advertising material (spamming) or to transfer its resources to third parties for such activities.
  • undertakes not to install programs to monitor the network or the activities of other users and in any case not to violate the privacy of other users
  • undertakes not to install programs not strictly necessary for the agreed activities
  • undertakes not to install software without a regular license
  • undertakes not to change configurations and restrictions on access to the computing infrastructure and not to install network services without prior authorisation from the system administrators
  • undertakes not to take any action that would degrade system resources, prevent authorised entities from gaining access to resources, obtain resources in excess of those authorised, or access computational resources in breach of security measures
  • is committed to preserving the integrity and ensuring the proper functioning of the infrastructure
  • is aware that the computing infrastructure is a common good and undertakes to use it in a spirit of cooperation with other users and with those responsible for it with respect to all users
  • undertakes to report incidents, suspected abuses and breaches of security and the rules set out in this Regulation to the system administrators and to participate actively in the management of the incident

[CREATION/MANAGEMENT OF ACCOUNTS AND PROJECTS]

  • is aware that in order to use the CAPRI infrastructure, a request to this effect must be submitted via the CAPRI helpdesk (https://capri.dei.unipd.it/helpdesk/). This request can only be made by a professor or researcher (or by the contact person of an external body or company authorised in advance) and will be evaluated by the representative of the relevant department, the representative of INFN-PD and/or the CAPRI project management committee
  • the applicant will be considered the “project manager” and will have to provide the complete list of users to be enabled for the project, indicating name, surname and contact email
  • the project manager undertakes to verify the correct use of resources by all users of his/her project

[ACCOUNT]

  • is aware that each account is associated with one and only one individual (the account owner) and is related to one and only one specific project
  • is aware that if it participate in several projects, it will have an account for each project it participate in
  • undertakes to use a given account only for the purposes of the project with which it is associated. In case of user with multiple accounts (i.e. participant in multiple projects), each account must be used only for the purposes of the project to which it is associated
  • undertakes to use its account in a strictly personal way: each user will be the only user of its own accout
  • undertakes not to share access credentials with anyone for any reason, not even temporarily
  • is aware that the account is password-protected and undertakes to renew it periodically according to the policies established by the system administrators
  • is aware that it will be held legally responsible for all activities carried out by his/her account

[ALLOCATION OF RESOURCES]

  • undertakes to follow the resource allocation policies set out in the user guide (https://capriuserguide.rtfd.io)
  • undertakes not to modify and/or circumvent the resource allocation policies
  • is aware that computations, simulations, etc. should never be undertaken outside the resource allocation system and undertakes to use only the partitions provided for in the resource allocation system at all times
  • undertakes, for each calculation to be performed, to use the correct partition of the resource allocation system and only the necessary resource
  • is aware that checks will be carried out on the correct use of resource allocation policies by system administrators
  • is aware that in the case of periods of particular load on the computing system, or in the event of abnormal use of the system, mechanisms for limiting resources for individual users or groups may be activated

[ACCESS]

  • is aware that the only way to access the infrastructure is through a connection to the login node
  • is aware that it is in no way allowed to open a remote session (by “ssh” or other means) to the computing node

[MAINTENANCE AND MONITORING]

  • undertakes to report any faults or anomalies in the system or system software used without delay to the system administrators
  • is aware that access may be temporarily suspended, even without notice, due to technical or service reasons. Any scheduled maintenance interventions will be communicated to users with the maximum possible notice
  • is aware that the integrity of the data in the storage is not guaranteed. System administrators can, if necessary, delete the data in the storage to restore the standard infrastructure configuration
  • is aware that the integrity of the data stored in the storage is guaranteed within the limits of the technical resources available and that at present no backup is planned (it is therefore the responsibility of users to carry out this activity where necessary)

[FORM FOR RESEARCH PRODUCTS AND ACKNOWLEDGMENTS TO CAPRI]

  • undertakes to mention CAPRI in all scientific products derived from the use of the infrastructure, using the following formula: University of Padova Strategic Research Infrastructure Grant 2017: “CAPRI: Calcolo ad Alte Prestazioni per la Ricerca e l’Innovazione”.
  • the project manager undertakes to fill in the online form annually concerning the results of the scientific production (articles, patents, conference proceedings, participation in calls and research projects, etc.) produced using the CAPRI infrastructure
  • is aware that filling out the form is a necessary condition to keep the account active

[GENERIC]

  • is aware that as a general rule, it is not permitted to do anything that is not expressly regulated by these regulations and/or expressly authorized by the system administrators
  • is aware that the administrators of this system will carry out systematic compliance checks to verify the respect of this Regulation
  • is aware that any conduct in breach of this Regulation will result in the suspension of access to the infrastructure and, where provided for, any disciplinary, civil or criminal proceedings in the competent bodies
